The winery Castello di Bolgheri can look back on a long tradition in viticulture. The foundation for today's Bolgheri wines was laid as early as the 16th century by the Gherardesca family. To this day, the winery is in the hands of the Gherardescas - the passion for viticulture thus seems to be literally in the family's blood.
An important change took place in the 18th century with the construction of their own cellar facility in Bolgheri: with the construction of the new building, the grapes were not to be resold in the future, but processed by themselves. In 1997, the winemaking family had decided to produce DOC certified wines.
Count Federico Zileri Dal Verme now looks after the vineyards and cellar together with oenologist Alessandro Dondi from South Tyrol. Federico was also appointed president of the Consorzio Bolgheri DOC in April 2013. The heir to the Castelli di Bolgheri has set itself the ambitious goal of making the wines from the quality region famous beyond Italy and throughout the world.
