Weinviertel DAC

Weinviertel DAC

Details

The Weinviertel is known to every Austrian wine-lover, but also internationally the degree of popularity of the largest Austrian wine-growing region is increasing. The size of the vineyard, almost 14,000 hectares, is an important factor, but the recipe for success is called Grüner Veltliner. Nearly 6,700 hectares not only represent half of the total stock in Austria, but also almost half worldwide. Nevertheless - and also across all the different soil types and great distances between the wine villages - the Weinviertler Veltliner type can be recognised by its piquant "peppery" taste. In addition to the association of green, white and, at higher ripeness, black pepper, there is a fruity bouquet and fresh acidity. From the 2002 vintage this characteristic trio became the definition for the Weinviertel DAC, Austria's first controlled designation of origin. Since the 2009 vintage, there has also been the strong "Reserve" variety. The special climate in the Weinviertel, the healthy soils and the signature of every winemaker make this Veltliner a very special wine, which stands out due to its unmistakable character: melt, ripe taste, powerful aromas and a very long finish characterise the selected wines.
